                    About

The Japanese Red Maple is a smaller tree and a cornerstone of Japanese gardening. It presents magnificent red leaves with a unique slender shape. This beautiful small to medium sized tree grows grows to about 15-25' in height at maturity and thrives in a variety of environments and soil conditions.

                    Wildlife

The fruits, known as samaras are loved by squirrels. Rabbits and deer also eat the tender shoots and leaves of red maples.

                    Quirky Facts

The first specimen of the tree reached England in 1820 and was named Acer palmatum after the hand-like shape of its leaves. Today there are hundreds of Japanese red maple cultivars available.
